The geometry of a propeller is closely related to its aerodynamic performance. One of the geometric parameters of a propeller is pitch. This parameter determines the distance by which the propeller moves forward during one revolution. The challenge is to select a propeller geometry for electric propulsion in order to achieve the best possible performance. This paper presents the experimental results of the aerodynamic performance of the set of propellers with different pitch values. The tests were performed in a closed-circuit subsonic wind tunnel using a six-component force balance. The analyzed propellers were 12-inch diameter twin-blade propellers that were driven by a BLDC (brushless direct current) electric motor. The tests were performed under forced airflow conditions. The thrust and torque produced by the propeller were measured using a strain gauge. The analysis was performed for different values of the advance ratio which is the ratio of freestream fluid speed to propeller tip speed. Additionally, a set of electrical parameters was recorded using the created measurement system. The propeller performance was evaluated by a dimensional analysis. This method enables calculation of dimensionless coefficients which are useful for comparing performance data for propellers.

Nowadays, there is a permanent need to develop alternative fuel production and combustion technologies. The general objective indicated in Directive 2009/28/EC for biofuels in Poland is application in transport 10% of renewable energy by 2020 and 20% by 2030. In Poland, it can be achieved by adding bio-components to liquid fuels. Flexible fuel vehicles are not as popular in Europe as in Brazil, so further ethanol processing is justified. The researched synthetic gasoline was obtained from bioethanol at the Ekobenz Company Ltd. in Poland. In 2008, Sasol launched its 100% synthetic jet fuel produced by CTL (Coal to Liquids).A variety of engine concepts was tested and evaluated in terms of the key criteria for use as a range extender developed by AVL Company. The Wankel engine has been selected for the vehicle prototype as the most compact and of excellent NVH behaviour. The use of this engine in light helicopters is also considered. The paper describes the combustion results of a synthetic fuel produced from bioethanol in the ETG (Ethanol to Gasoline) process. This type of fuel is totally alternative as it has no petroleum additives. The influence of some second-generation biofuels on emissions, fuel consumption and the characteristics of the Wankel engine was described. The combustion results were compared with those of gasoline. The emission test results were also presented for different mixtures of synfuels and gasoline. The tested object was a low intake, 4-stroke XR50 Wankel engine.

The paper presents the authors’ method and test rig for performing the deformation analysis of unmanned aircraft fuselages. To conduct the analysis, the DIC system was used, as well as a test rig designed and constructed by the authors, equipped with a dedicated control and load control system. The article presents a description of the research capabilities of the test rig developed for testing the deformation of unmanned aircraft fuselages. Due to the specific operating conditions of the designed fuselage, the test rig developed allows the simulation of loads corresponding to different flight conditions. In addition, it is possible to change the forces acting on the fuselage simultaneously for all servos or each of them separately. Finally, results showing the displacement of component control points for the considered fuselage versions are presented. The tests carried out using the developed test rig allowed the verification of the maximum deformations.

The article presents results of the 3D-CFD modeling of mixture creation process in the cylinder of diesel engine. The simulation was performed using the AVL Fire software. Based on the geometry of the ADCR engine, produced by Andoria-Mot Company, a 3D-CFD model of combustion chamber, channels in the engine head and CNG injector nozzle were created. This model prevented the simulation of the filling, compression and mixture creation process. Specially prepared CNG injector has been placed in the socket of the glow plug, to minimize interference with the structure of the engine. With this solution full functionality of the original fuel supply system was retained with the ability to work with one or two fuels. During studies the location of the gas injector nozzle was changed. The results of simulation are presented for three variants of CNG injector locations. Simulation studies prevented the determination of the degree of stratification and the distribution of fuel in the cylinder of the engine. Influence of the injector nozzle position on the air-fuel stratification in the cylinder was demonstrated. The characteristics of the fuel mass in piston bowl and the rest part of the cylinder were also analyzed. As a result of the simulation, the optimal position of the injector nozzle was presented.

This article deals with the phenomenon of aerodynamic interference occurring in the innovative hybrid system of multirotor aircraft propulsion. The approach to aerodynamics requires a determination of the impact of active sources of lift and thrust upon the aircraft aerodynamic characteristics. The hybrid propulsion unit, composed of a conventional multirotor source of thrust as well as lift in the form of the main rotor and a pusher, was equipped with an additional propeller drive unit. The tests were conducted in a continuous-flow low speed wind tunnel with an open measuring space, 1.5 m in diameter and 2.0 m long. Force testing made it possible to develop aerodynamic characteristics as well as defining aerodynamic characteristics and defining the field of speed for the considered design configurations. Our investigations enabled us to analyze the results in terms of a mutual impact of particular components of the research object and the area of impact of active elements present in a common flow.
