Antoine Gardel has a PhD in geography, specialising in coastal geomorphology. He was first a lecturer before becoming a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research. His research work combines spatial remote sensing approaches, in situ observations, and modeling. He leads a research team in Cayenne, French Guiana. He has coordinated numerous interdisciplinary research programs on the Guiana coastline. He leads an interdisciplinary research network on the coastline of French Guiana (GDR LIGA), which brings together 110 researchers from approximately 30 major French research laboratories.
