Hansruedi Glatt obtained his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Basel (CH). He was a Professor in Toxicology & Pharmacology at the University of Mainz (DE, 1987–1994), a Professor in Molecular Toxicology at the University of Potsdam (DE, 1994–2013), and the Head of the Department of Nutritional Toxicology at the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam-Rehbrücke (1994–2013). He also taught in the Master's Program in Toxicology at the Charité Berlin (2008–2018) and the Postgraduate Programme “University Course Toxicology” at the Medical University of Vienna (2015–present). He is active as a Guest Scientist at the German Federal Institute of Risk Assessment (2014–present). His major research areas involve the role of biotransformation in genetic toxicology, with a focus on non-P450 enzymes, such as sulfotransferases; genetically modified cell and animal models; DNA and protein adducts in such models and in humans; and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, food-borne mutagens, and natural mutagens of plant origin (e.g., alkenylbenzenes, pyrrolizidines, glucosinolates, arbutin). He has published nearly 340 articles in scientific journals (including five articles in “Nature” and “Science”) and 45 book chapters. He has received several awards, including the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz prize in 1980, the GUM award (German speaking section of the European Environmental Mutagen Society) in 2003, and the Frits Sobels award of the European Environmental Mutagen Society in 2014.
