Yoshihide Usami (PhD) is a Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences (OUPS, renamed as Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University in April 2021). His research team focuses on natural product chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. He received his PhD from Kyoto University in 1989 and worked on the isolation of bioactive marine natural products in OUPS under Professor Atsushi Numata from 1989 to 2004. During the period 2005−2006, he was invited as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After returning to OUPS, he became an Associate Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 2019. He received the Kansai-Branch Award of Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry Japan in 2015.
