Dr. Aiah Khateb is an assistant professor of medical mycology and infectious diseases. She did her undergraduate work at King Abdulaziz University in laboratory medicine, then joined the University of Taibah as a teaching assistant for a year. She received her MSc in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Where she studied pathogenesis and molecular detection, characterization, and pathogenicity of multidrug-resistant staphylococci, covering Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) at the Center of Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory at Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Calgary Laboratory Services (CLS) at the University of Calgary (U of Calgary). Dr.Khateb received her PhD from the University of Manchester, where she trained and worked on research projects with the Clinical Mycology Reference Centre, Manchester (MRCM), for 4 years, including identifying relevant markers and novel resistance mechanisms using whole-genome sequencing and genetic mutagenesis of patient samples. Also, she is the Saudi Ambassador for the Global Action Fund for Fungal Infections (GAFFI). Dr. Khateb's current research focuses on fungal infections in Saudi Arabia.
