Elena Maria Varoni is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences, University of Milan, Italy. She graduated in Dentistry from Milan State University in 2008. In the same year, she started her PhD program in Biotechnologies for Human Health at the University of Piemonte Orientale (Novara, Italy). From 2012 to 2017, she was a postdoc researcher, working at McGill University, the University of Piemonte Orientale, and Milan State University, where she is currently affiliated. She won the “La Fucina del Futuro” award from the medical board in 2020 as the best clinician/researcher in the Milan metropolitan area. In 2010, she won a prize for the best young clinical researcher in oral medicine given by the European Association of Oral Medicine; a few years later, she also won the “H. Goldman prize” from the Italian Society of Periodontology for having conducted the best basic research in the field. She is now the Head of the Dental Hygiene Course at the University of Milan and she is a Peer Reviewer for the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia (SF). She is also an editorial board member of the following journals: European Journal of Medicinal Plants, Frontiers in Nutrition, and Journal of Applied Biomaterials & Functional Materials.
