I am a full professor and the head of the Geoecology Department at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, University of Warsaw (Poland). Formerly, I was involved in the Faculty of Earth Science at the University of Silesia where I was in charge of the Department of Regional Geography and Tourism. For many years I have been involved in and conducted research in the field of karst and caves. A special area of my research is the gypsum karst of the Western Ukraine and the world longest gypsum caves of that region. Currently, my scientific research are concentrated on holistic (geosystemic, geoecological, geosynergistic and geoevolutionary) concepts of current geography, which have been applied to optimize interactions in the man-environment system, especially in the areas with a considerable impact from tourism. The main areas of my field research are Mediterranean karst (mainly in Albania), tropical karst areas (South China) and alpine areas of Central Asia and the Himalayan (India and Nepal) being under mountaineering tourism pressure. I am a board member of ASAP-Poland.
