Piotr Nowicki is a full professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, and has a PhD in biological sciences obtained in 2001 at the same university. For over two decades, he has been involved in large-scale projects into biodiversity conservation and monitoring in Europe. His current research interests include metapopulation ecology and evolutionary aspects of species persistence in fragmented landscapes, with butterflies as model organisms. He is a member of the Society for Conservation Biology.
