Biography

My research focuses mainly on sorption (by application of mineral sorbents, zeolites, biochar, etc.) and biosorption (by algae) of inorganic contaminants (heavy metals, biogens). Moreover, my research interests include phycoremediation, water and wastewater treatment, and waste management, as well as the assessment of gas pollution emission reduction using algae (mainly the capture of CO2 emitted by industrial sources). I specialize in the cultivation of algae and applications of algal biomass for the production of different types of renewable third-generation biofuels and the utilization of biomass as high-protein animal feed, food, biopolymers/bioplastics, biosorbents, medicines, and cosmetics. I act as an expert evaluator of R&D proposals for the European Commission (Horizon 2020) in the field of environmental protection and engineering and renewable energy sources and as a consultant in this field for the Polish Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, National Center for Research and Development, and Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. I am an author of two patent rights and one protection right on the utility model “Photobioreactor for microalgae cultivation”, No. PL69352. I successfully cooperate with many scientific research centers and with industry in Poland and abroad. I have participated in several scientific internship and training programs (University of Oxford and University of Cambridge) as well as industrial internships and study visits.
