Dr. Dong-Neng Jiang is a Professor and supervisor for PhD/Master students in aquaculture. During his PhD, he studied sex determination genes in Nile tilapia, proving that Gsdf plays a key role in male sex development and works downstream of Dmrt1. This important finding was published in Molecular Reproduction and Development (2016) and has been cited over 120 times, making it a highly cited paper. Since joining Guangdong Ocean University in 2016, Prof. Jiang has continued researching sex determination and breeding control in commercially important fish species. His team identified sex-determining genes in three Scatophagidae fish species (Scatophagus argus, Selenotoca multifasciata, and Selenotoca fourfenestra) and studied their evolutionary differences, with results published in Communications Biology (2025). He has also conducted systematic studies on how key genes like Dmrt1 and Gsdf control sex development. To date, Prof. Jiang has published 91 research papers, including 23 SCI-indexed papers as first or corresponding author. His work provides valuable insights for both scientific understanding and practical fish-breeding applications.
