With a background of fundamental and applied biochemistry, Dr. Radhouane Chakroun obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Toxicology in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Monastir, Tunisia. He first became interested in the study of chemical pollutants in 1995 when he joined the Tunisian Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, where he was in charge of building a research lab specializing in occupational toxicology which he led for 17 years. This gave him the opportunity to develop analytical methods and to perform several field studies related to the evaluation of workplace environments and the assessment of exposure to chemicals. This allowed him to develop expertise and a better understanding of pollution problems in the industrial context and to contribute with his expertise in chemical risk assessment to the French National Agency for Food, Environment and Work. In more recent years, he has been interested in research topics dealing with the removal of chemical pollutants using natural (orange peels, Acacia, etc.) or synthetic materials, mainly phthalocyanine derivatives.
