Information

Dr. Stefano Serra is a researcher at the National Research Council (CNR) in the Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche (SCITEC), Milano, Italy. He received his laurea from the University of Pavia in 1995, working on synthesizing the antitumoral triterpene saponaceolide B. One year later, he joined the group of Professor Fuganti at the Politecnico of Milano, where he carried out studies on the use of enzymes in organic synthesis and the stereoselective preparation of flavour and fragrances. In 2000, he was awarded a Ph.D. in industrial chemistry from the University of Milano and in 2001 he became a researcher at the National Research Council. His scientific activity has been devoted to many aspects of organic synthesis and, above all, to the enantioselective preparation of chiral compounds and the development of new synthetic methods. His main scientific achievements concern the stereoselective preparation of several terpenes and terpenoids, the synthesis of carotenoid-related isoprenoids and in the development of biotechnological processes for organic synthesis. He is currently a member of the advisory editorial board of the journals Natural Product Communications, Catalysts and Antibiotics.
