Aim: The aim of this research was to help stunted adolescents improve their nutritional status. Background: Stunting is a leading global nutritional problem, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. This was a longitudinal panel study in the SMP Negeri 3 Pekanbaru Riau Province Junior High School in Indonesia. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the impact of calcium and phosphorus supplementation via additional midmorning snacks for adolescents with stunting conditions. Methods: We included 36 participants, aged 12–15 years with a height-for-age Z-score of <-2 standard deviation. They underwent a one-month nutritional intervention during which selected snacks and high-calcium milk were given for midmorning snacks. The midmorning snack menu varied daily and included gado-gado (rice, boiled egg, potato, tempeh, tofu, long beans, cabbage & peanut sauce), fried vermicelli (vermicelli, omelet, cucumber & prawn crackers), batagor (tofu, cassava flour crackers, boiled egg & peanut sauce), lontong medan (rice, boiled egg, vermicelli, french fries, fried anchovy, green bean & carrots curry), sandwich (plain toast, omelet, cucumber, lettuce, tomato & chili sauce), chicken porridge (rice porridge, fried bread, shredded chicken & chicken broth), and fried rice teri (rice, anchovy, prawn crackers, cucumber, chili sauce & soy sauce). The total amount of energy from the meals and milk was 541.8 kcal (30 % of RDARecommended Dietary Allowance), 25 g of protein (50 % of RDA), 90 g of carbohydrate (30 % of RDA), and 600 mg of calcium (35 % of RDA). Meal and milk administration lasted 34 days in total. Data analysis and food intake consumption were conducted using the Pearson Product moments test. Results: The participants’ mean height-for-age Z-score before and after the nutritional intervention was -2.5 ± 0.4 (-3.2 — -2.0) and -2.3 ± 0.4 (-3.2 — -1.2), respectively. After the intervention, the rate of stunting was reduced up to 19.4%; the rate of calcium intake before the nutritional intervention was 50% below the recommended dietary allowance—27.3 ± 27.8 (3.3:100.0) %; the rate of phosphorus intake among the participants was sufficient. The rate of calcium intake after the nutritional intervention was 59.1 ± 19.0 (15.5 — 100.0) % due to which the nutritional quality of food before the intervention was still lacking, namely 52.7 ± 15.5 (28.4 — 86.3) after the nutrition intervention increased to 84.8 ± 20.3 (30.9 — 100.0); (r-value = 0.43; p-value = 0.01).Conclusion: The nutritional intervention increased calcium intake. The outcome of the nutritional intervention led to the improvement of nutritional status from stunting to the normal category.Other: The midmorning snack given to teenagers is a snack meal available in the school canteen that they can buy with pocket money. It is necessary to create awareness about the importance of consuming high calcium midmorning snacks for teenagers. The activity of consuming high-calcium midmorning snacks by adolescents can be continued independently. So far, teenagers do not use pocket money to buy midmorning snacks that are high in calcium, but they buy other types of snacks that are low in calcium, consisting of pastel, noodles, tofu, fritters, pao, tempeh, rice cake, and eclairs. So far, no nutritional intervention has significantly increased the nutritional status of stunted children to normal levels; however, this type of intervention may become a viable option in the future.

The prevalence of stunting in the Southeast Asia/South-East Asia Regional (SEAR) is 36.4%. One of the efforts to prevent and reduce the prevalence of stunting is to teach teenagers about food consumption patterns based on balanced nutrition. Community service aims to improve adolescent food consumption patterns. The training was conducted from February to d. August 2022 at SMP N 1 Kampar, Kampar District, Kampar Regency. Assessment of adolescent eating patterns was carried out using pre and post-test questionnaires. Questions related to the type, amount, and frequency of eating. The practice of administering food was carried out 3 times at the Food Processing Laboratory of the Integrated Laboratory of Poltekkes, Ministry of Health, Riau on Jl. Melur 103 Pekanbaru City. Assessment of adolescent skills in food administration was carried out by observing using a checklist. The number of participants in the training was 12 teenagers. The result of the activity is an increase in adolescent food consumption patterns by 6.7% from 82.7 to 89.4%. The increase is seen in the frequency of food consumption from 75% to 80%. The type and amount of food consumed by adolescents before the training appeared to be good with a value above 80%. The average practice of processing a balanced menu for teenagers is in a good category with a score above 80%. The conclusion of this activity is that there is an increase in adolescent food consumption patterns after participating in the Training on the Use of the Book "Balanced Nutrition for Adolescents: Prevent Stunting". The type and amount of food consumed by adolescents were good before the training. The frequency of adolescent food consumption became good after the training.

The objective of this study was to analyze the correlation between pyridinium crosslinks (Pyd) urine and stunting among children. We also determined the effect of nutritional intervention on the Pyd content in urine among stunting children. The study was a cross-sectional involving 173 children in Pekanbaru and Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, Indonesia in 2014 (children aged 0-3 days: n = 32), in 2017 (children aged 4-6 years: n = 80), in 2018 (children 4-6 years old: n = 25), and in 2020 (children 12-15 years old: n = 36). Height gauges, family socio-economic questionnaires, pot urine and Pyd kit were utilized to gather the data. As nutritional interventions, milk was given to children aged 4-6 years old for 4 months (as additional energy; 20% of the recommended dietary allowance); brunch meals and milk were given to children 12-15 years old for 34 days (as additional energy; 30% recommended dietary allowance). Pyd and height were used as parameter indicators in this study. Pearson correlation and t-test (significance p< 0.05 and p<0.01) were applied for statistical analysis. The Pyd content of stunted children aged in 0-3 days, 3-5 years, 4-6 years, and 12-15 years were discovered to be 982, 16.4, 16.9 and 9.6 nmol/mmol creatinine, respectively. The Pyd content of stunted children aged 4-6 and 12-15 years before and after nutritional intervention were 16.9 vs 15.3 and 9.81 vs 5.33 nmol/mmol creatinine, respectively. Stunting neonatal urine Pyd content was found to be different from normal neonatal urine Pyd content (p <0.01). There was a correlation revealed between urine Pyd content and height of children aged 4-6 years (p <0.05) and r = -0.242. A difference was observed in the urine Pyd content of children 4-6 years before nutrition intervention (p <0.01) as well as in urine Pyd content of children aged 12-15 years before and after nutritional intervention (p <0.05); as many as 19.4% of the subjects increased their nutritional status from stunting to normal. The urine Pyd is expected to be a marker of the efficacy of nutritional care in bone growth disorders associated with bone resorption in stunting children.

This study aimed to investigate the intragroup conflict in a community-based interprofessional education program. After completing three weeks' program, items of group atmosphere (Trust, Respect, and Openness) and intragroup conflict (Relationship, Task, and Process) were compared between students who stayed at villages during the program (stay-community IPE program, n = 237) and students who commuted to villages (commute-community IPE program, n = 184). We found relationship and task conflict in students with the stay-community IPE program, but respect and process conflict in students with the commute-community IPE program. Whereas overall relationships between atmosphere and conflict were correlated negatively, trust was positively correlated with process conflict. This new knowledge may improve our understanding of interprofessional interaction in the community-based interprofessional education.

Children’s consumption of vegetables and fruits remains low and often does not meet nutritional recommendations, potentially leading to long-term health problems, including increased risks of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Insufficient vegetable intake may also negatively affect eye health and contribute to anemia, resulting in symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, and poor concentration in children. This community service aimed to improve knowledge and awareness regarding fruit and vegetable consumption among early childhood children in Ranah Singkuang Village. The activities were carried out from January to September 2024 at PAUD Ranah Singkuang Village and included educational sessions for children and PAUD teachers focusing on the variety and benefits of fruits and vegetables. The results demonstrated improved knowledge among teachers and young children, as well as positive behavioral changes among parents in providing healthier meals, especially those containing fruits and vegetables. Approximately 95% of students were observed bringing lunches that included fruit and vegetable components following the intervention. Based on these findings, it is recommended that similar educational activities continue to be implemented regularly and that PAUD teachers integrate play-based nutrition learning into daily classroom activities to promote sustainable healthy eating habits among young children.
