Prof Michael Horowitz is Professor of Medicine, University of Adelaide, and Director of the Endocrine and Metabolic Unit, Royal Adelaide Hospital. He is a clinician-scientist with a career in translational clinical research focusing on the relevance of gastrointestinal function to diabetes, appetite regulation, critical illness and ageing. These research interests are complementary to his clinical activities as an endocrinologist. The outcomes of his work, particularly relating to the impact of gastric emptying in blood glucose control of type 1 and, particularly, type 2 diabetes, have led to major improvements in management.
