The purpose of this study was to explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of COVID-19 transmission and its influencing factors in China from January to October 2020. About 81,000 COVID-19 confirmed case data, Baidu migration index data, air pollutants, meteorological data, and government response strictness index data were collected from 31 provincial-level regions (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) and 337 prefecture-level cities. The spatio-temporal characteristics of COVID-19 were explored using spatial autocorrelation, hot spot, and spatio-temporal scanning statistics. At the same time, Spearman rank correlation analysis and multiple linear regression were used to explore the relationship between influencing factors and confirmed COVID-19 cases. The distribution of COVID-19 in China tends to be stable over time, with spatial correlation and obvious clustering regions. spatio-temporal scanning analysis showed that most COVID-19 high incidence months were from January to March at the beginning of the epidemic, and the area with the highest aggregation risk was Hubei Province (RR = 491.57), which was 491.57 times the aggregation risk of other regions. Among the meteorological variables, the daily average temperature, wind speed, precipitation, and new COVID-19 cases were negatively correlated. The air pollution concentration and migration index were positively correlated with new confirmed cases, and the government response strict index was strongly negatively correlated with confirmed COVID-19 cases. Environmental temperature has a certain inhibitory effect on the transmission of COVID-19, and the air pollution concentration and migration index have a certain promoting effect on the transmission of COVID-19. The strict government response index indicates that the greater the intensity of government intervention, the fewer COVID-19 cases will occur.

Arthritis is a public health issue that is of global concern. Arthritis is one of the chronic diseases with a high incidence of middle-aged and older adults. The patients have paid a heavy price for this and caused a substantial economic burden on society. In this study, we used spatial autocorrelation, spatial cluster analysis, multiple logistic regression, and random forest models to analyze the spatial distribution and possible risk factors for arthritis in elderly Chinese and assess arthritis risk. Global spatial autocorrelation analysis and significance test results show that Moran’s I of arthritis spatial autocorrelation in 2011, 2013, and 2015 are statistically significant, so there is significant spatial autocorrelation three years. The results of local spatial autocorrelation and spatial clustering analysis show that the aggregation areas of arthritis patients are mainly in the southwest, northwest, and central China. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that gender, age, education level, Body Mass Index (BMI), Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale score (CES-D), altitude, region, weather temperature, hypertension, lung, liver, heart, stroke, digestive, and kidney disease were all arthritis affects factors (P < 0.05). Compared with the multi-factor Logistic regression model, the random forest model better assesses performance and higher fit. The fitting accuracy is 82.2% in the random forest model, which is better than the multi-factor Logistic regression model (66.6%). According to the assessment risk map generated by the random forest model, Northeast, Southwest, Northwest, South, and Central are high-risk areas for arthritis. These results provide benchmark data for the control and prevention of arthritis diseases.

The main purposes of this study were to explore the spatial distribution characteristics of H7N9 human infections during 2013–2017, and to construct a neural network risk simulation model of H7N9 outbreaks in China and evaluate their effects. First, ArcGIS 10.6 was used for spatial autocorrelation analysis, and cluster patterns ofH7N9 outbreaks were analyzed in China during 2013–2017 to detect outbreaks’ hotspots. During the study period, the incidence of H7N9 outbreaks in China was high in the eastern and southeastern coastal areas of China, with a tendency to spread to the central region. Moran’s I values of global spatial autocorrelation of H7N9 outbreaks in China from 2013 to 2017 were 0.080128, 0.073792, 0.138015, 0.139221 and 0.050739, respectively (p < 0.05) indicating a statistically significant positive correlation of the epidemic. Then, SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the correlation between H7N9 outbreaks in China and population, livestock production, the distance between the case and rivers, poultry farming, poultry market, vegetation index, etc. Statistically significant influencing factors screened out by correlation analysis were population of the city, average vegetation of the city, and the distance between the case and rivers (p < 0.05), which were included in the neural network risk simulation model of H7N9 outbreaks in China. The simulation accuracy of the neural network risk simulation model of H7N9 outbreaks in China from 2013 to 2017 were 85.71%, 91.25%, 91.54%, 90.49% and 92.74%, and the AUC were 0.903, 0.976, 0.967, 0.963 and 0.970, respectively, showing a good simulation effect of H7N9 epidemics in China. The innovation of this study lies in the epidemiological study of H7N9 outbreaks by using a variety of technical means, and the construction of a neural network risk simulation model of H7N9 outbreaks in China. This study could provide valuable references for the prevention and control of H7N9 outbreaks in China.

In recent years, as river-borne sediment transport has decreased, land loss in estuarine areas has become increasingly severe. Particularly from 2009 to 2022, due to the reduced sediment load from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, significant changes in the erosion-deposition conditions at the Yangtze River Estuary have become a critical concern. The suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the estuary is closely linked to sediment content, and against this backdrop, this study aims to thoroughly explore the response mechanisms of the Yangtze River Estuary’s SSC to changes in erosion-deposition conditions, with the goal of providing scientific bases and strategic recommendations for erosion-deposition management. To this end, this research collected historical water depth data for the Yangtze River Estuary, measured vertical distribution of SSC in September 2022, surface suspended sediment concentration (SSSC) data from 2021 to 2023, and 25 factors influencing SSSC, to analyze in detail the changes in the erosion-deposition conditions at the Yangtze River Estuary and the response mechanisms of SSC to these changes. The analysis showed that between 2009 and 2022, the mouth bar area of the Yangtze River Estuary experienced net erosion for the first time since 1958, with an annual erosion rate reaching 63.2 × 10^6 m3/yr, and the highest erosion rate occurring in the North Passage area, reaching 83.3 mm/yr. This phenomenon is likely caused by human-induced changes in underwater topography, with the Yangtze River Estuary shifting from deposition to erosion. Between 2021 and 2023, the turbidity maximum zone (TMZ) of the Yangtze River Estuary did not show regular changes in SSSC, which may be related to the frequent occurrence of typhoons and changes in sediment supply in the submerged delta of the Yangtze River Estuary.

Effectively simulating the variation in suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in estuaries during typhoons is significant for the water quality and ecological conditions of estuarine shoal wetlands and their adjacent coastal waters. During typhoons, SSC undergoes large variations due to the significant changes in meteorological and hydrological factors such as waves, wind speed, and precipitation, which increases the difficulty in simulating SSC. Therefore, in this study, we use an optimized Principal Component Analysis Long Short-Term Memory (PCA-LSTM) framework with an attention mechanism to simulate the SSC in the Yangtze Estuary during Typhoon In-Fa. First, we integrate data from different sources into a multi-source dataset. Second, we use the PCA to reduce the dimensionality of the multi-source data and eliminate redundant variables in the feature data. Third, we introduce an attention mechanism to optimize the long and short-term memory (LSTM) model. Finally, we use the differential evolution (DE) algorithm for hyperparameter selection and merge the feature data with the SSC data as the input of the optimized LSTM network to simulate SSC. The results showed that SSC’s fitting coefficients (R2) at four hydrological stations improved by 7.5%, 6.1%, 7.4%, and 7.8%, respectively, using the attention-based PCA-LSTM compared to the PCA-LSTM. Moreover, compared to the traditional LSTM model, the R2 was improved by 33.8%, 30.5%, 32.0%, and 28.6%, respectively, using the attention-based PCA-LSTM framework. The study indicates that the selection of input variables can affect the model results. Introducing an attention mechanism can effectively optimize the PCA-LSTM framework and improve the simulation accuracy, which helps simulate the non-linear process of SSC variation occurring during Typhoon In-Fa.
