Biography

My great interest in the molecular mechanisms of tolerance and bacterial persistence involved in antimicrobial resistance, as well as the need to innovate in new anti-infective treatments such as phage therapy, led me to join the group led by Dr. María del Mar Tomás Carmona. . "Clinical Translational Microbiology" for the completion of my doctoral thesis in September 2018, enrolling in the Doctorate Program in Health Sciences at the University of La Coruña. My doctoral thesis focuses on finding solutions to remedy the current global crisis of antimicrobial resistance, which is considered one of the biggest problems of this century. The rapid appearance of multiresistant pathogens to antibiotics has generated the entry of society into the post-antibiotic era, being the classic methods of low efficacy in the treatment of current infections. Therefore, it is vitally important to know the molecular mechanisms involved in this problem, highlighting those related to bacterial persistence and tolerance, directly related to the development of recurrent infections and the massive failure of antibiotics as treatment.
