Iva Fernandes (IF) was graduated in Biochemistry (2006) and holds a PhD in Chemistry (2012) both from the University of Porto (UP). She is currently a senior research at LAQV-REQUIMTE and invited assistant professor in Faculty of Science at the University of Porto and in Escola Superior de Saúde. She has (co)supervised, 2 PhD students, 2 MSc students and 8 research fellows. IF has published 51 peer-reviewed papers, 4 book chapters, holds an H factor of 17 and has 1090 citations (Web of Science). Many papers resulted from international collaborations with leading experts in polyphenols. Her field of research concerns food chemistry, nutritional biochemistry and bioactivity. She participates and/or participated as PI in 3 projects and as researcher in 13 projects essentially by the Portuguese Government. One of her main areas of research deals with the bioavailability, biological activity and metabolism of polyphenols detected in red or Port wines and their putative applications as nutraceuticals. More recently, she has been involved in projects dealing with the absorption and metabolization of wine polyphenols in human volunteers. Recently, she has initiated a project related with new anthocyanin derivatives for technological applications in the cosmetic industry.
