In order to explore the effect of curb parking on dynamic traffic and formulate some reasonable and effective traffic management measures, the effects on capacity and traffic safety are studied. Four road segments with curb parking were selected as the investigation location. Several traffic characteristics and parameters were then investigated and counted, including traffic flow volume, speed, headway and traffic conflict. Based on a reduction of lane effective width and the Gap Acceptance Theory, two effect models describing curb parking and road capacity were constructed. Considering the factors involved in motor vehicle conflicts (such as non-motor vehicle lane distribution and stopping sight distance), the effects of curb parking on both motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle traffic safety was analyzed, as well as pedestrian crossing safety. This case study analyzes both the capacity and traffic safety of all four investigation segments. Results show that the lane effective width of road segment with curb parking significantly influences the road capacity and impacts the traffic flow volumes of the parking lane and its adjacent lane. Curb parking significantly effects traffic operation safety; however, it can be improved by implementing traffic safety management measures.

To fully take the advantages of ride-sharing ride hailing, such as high loading rate, high operating efficiency, and less traffic resources, and to alleviate the difficulty of getting a taxi in urban hubs, the topic of ride-sharing route optimization for ride hailing is studied in this paper. For the multiple ride hailing ride-sharing demands and multiple ride hailing services in the urban road network in a specific period, the objective function is established with the shortest route of the system. The constraint conditions of the optimization model are constructed by considering factors of the rated passenger capacity, route rationality, passenger benefits, driver benefits and time window. Based on the idea of the Genetic Algorithm, the solution algorithm of the optimization model is developed. According to the supply and demand data of taxi during peak hours in the local road network in the city of Dalian, the optimization model and algorithm are used to optimize the ride-sharing route scheme. Research results indicate that the optimization model and algorithm can find the approximate optimal solution of the system in a short time. Compared with the traditional non-ride-sharing mode, the ride-sharing scheme can not only effectively reduce the taxi empty-loaded rate and the travel cost of passengers, improve the efficiency of drivers, but also save energy and reduce emissions, and promote the sustainable development of urban traffic.

The development of metro systems can be a good solution to many problems in urban transport and promote sustainable urban development. A metro system plays an important role in urban public transit, and the passenger-flow forecasting is fundamental to assisting operators in establishing an intelligent transport system (ITS). In order to accurately predict the passenger flow of urban metros in different periods and provide a scientific basis for schedule planning, a short-term metro passenger-flow prediction model is constructed by integrating ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and long short-term memory neural network (LSTM) to solve the problem that the existing empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is prone to modal aliasing. According to the processed metro-card data, the time series of historical OD data of metro passenger flow is obtained. After EEMD modal decomposition, several intrinsic mode functions sub-items and residual items are obtained. Then, an LSTM network is constructed for prediction. The time step of the network is decided according to the partial autocorrelation functions. The prediction results of intrinsic mode function (IMF) and residual items are integrated to obtain prediction results. The station is classified according to the land types around the station, and the model is tested by using the metro automatic fare collection (AFC) data. In order to test the actual prediction, a different number of training set samples are selected to predict. The measured data of the next day is continuously added to the original training set to compare the prediction accuracy. The results show that the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE) of the EEMD-LSTM model are better than the EMD-LSTM in predicting the OD value of commercial–residential stations and scenic–residential stations. Compared with the EMD-LSTM model, the EEMD-LSTM model showed an average reduction by 3.112% in MAPE values and 15.889 in RMSE, indicating that the EEMD-LSTM has higher prediction accuracy, and EEMD-LSTM model has higher accuracy in short-term metro passenger-flow prediction. The average MAPE for the 35-to-42-day historical data sample decreased from 13.02% to 10.39% with a decreasing trend. It shows that the prediction accuracy keeps improving as the training set samples increase.

To fully take the advantages of conventional bus and subway, and to maximize the overall feeder efficiency of the public transport system, the topic of feeder bus route optimization is studied in this paper. Considering the origin destination demand of passenger flow between subway stations and bus stations and transfer characteristics, the objective function is established with the minimum sum of bus operation cost and passenger travel cost. Taking into account the integrity of the feeder bus route, the rationality of the route, the route capacity and the station transfer factors, the constraints of the optimization model are constructed. Based on the idea of the genetic algorithm, the solution algorithm of the optimization model is developed. The genetic algorithm and enumeration algorithm are used to solve the optimization of the feeder bus route in this case, and the accuracy and efficiency of the solution are analyzed. The influence of the number of feeder bus routes on the system in the case network is compared and discussed. We compare and analyze the differences between the original bus network and the feeder bus network in terms of bus operation cost, passenger flow demand and total passenger travel cost. The research shows that the model and algorithm can find the approximate optimal solution of the feeder bus network scheme related to the subway through fewer iterations. The number of routes in the model has little impact on the whole feeder system, and the optimization scheme using five routes is effective and reasonable in this paper. Compared with the existing bus network, the optimization scheme has obvious advantages in improving the passenger-carrying rate, reducing the per capita travel cost and improving the overall operation efficiency of the system.

In order to prevent social instability of rail transit construction projects effectively, 15 factors caused rail transit social risk were extracted. Using the integration of decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and the interpretive structure model(ISM), a structural model of risk cause system was established. The causes were divided into 4 categories: root causes, controllable causes, key causes, direct causes. The results show that safeguarding the fundamental interests of the masses is the key to control the social risk of the rail transit construction.

The regularity and demand predictions of shared cycling are very necessary and challenging for the management and development of urban pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The bicycle-sharing system has the problem of spatial and temporal demand fluctuations and presents a very complex nonlinear regularity. The demand for shared bicycles is affected by many factors, including time, space, weather and the situation of COVID-19. This study proposes a new bicycle-sharing demand forecasting model (USTARN) based on the impact of COVID-19, which combines urban computing and spatiotemporal attention residual network. USTARN consists of two parts. In the first part, a spatiotemporal attention residual network model is established to learn the temporal correlation and spatial correlation of shared bicycle demand. The temporal characteristic branches of each spatial small region are trained, respectively, to predict the shared bicycle demand in batches in different regions and periods according to the historical data. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of the model, the second part of the model adjusts and redistributes the prediction results of the first part by learning other information of the city, such as the severity of COVID-19, weather, temperature, wind speed and holidays. It can predict the demand for shared bicycles in different urban areas in different periods and different severities of COVID-19. This study uses the order data of shared bicycles during the period of COVID-19 in 2020 obtained from the open data platform of Shenzhen municipal government as verification, analyzes the spatiotemporal regularity of the system demand and discusses the impact of the number of newly diagnosed patients and the daily minimum temperature on the demand for shared bicycles. The results show that USTARN can fully reflect time, space, the epidemic situation, weather and temperature, and the prediction results of the impact of wind speed and other factors on the demand for shared bicycles are better than the classical methods.
