A. Guerra initiated her scientific activity in 2008, as trainee at the Toxicology and Pharmacology Laboratory
of Universidade de Évora in the context of Biochemistry degree. During her master’s degree, she
investigated the anti-tumoral activity of Cynara cardunculus extracts in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling
pathway. In recent years, A. Guerra has worked under the projects "Biological characterization of E. grandis
x globulus bark lipophilic extractives on human breast cancer cell lines" (within the European Project
AFORE (FP7) coordinated by VTT; and "NEucbark - New Valorization Strategies for Eucalyptus spp. Bark
Extracts Eucalyptus triterpenic biological activity" (PTDC/AGR-FOR/3187/2012). Recently finished
her PhD work, supported by FCT (SFRH/BD/98635/2013), on “Metabolomics study of the effects of
eucalyptus bark compounds on human breast cancer and non-tumor epithelial cells”, under the scientific
supervision of Dr. Iola Duarte (CICECO/UA) and Dr. Fátima Duarte (CEBAL/ICAAM).
