Prof. Dr. Štefan Bojnec graduated from the University of
Ljubljana in 1982 and was awarded his Master's in 1984 and Ph.D. in 1988 from the
Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb. He is a Full Professor
of Economics and Head of the Department of Economics at the Faculty of
Management, University of Primorska. As a researcher and visiting professor, he
was active at several institutes and universities in several countries in
Europe, the USA, and Asia. His research and teaching areas have been: enterprise
economics, international economics, theory and analysis of market structure
(industrial organization), history of economic thought, economic policy,
sectoral economics (agriculture and environment, tourism, energy, education and
employment, defence and peace, other industrial and service activities),
regional development and rural development and sustainable development of the
economy. He has participated in several national and international research
projects. He was also a member of several expert groups, such as the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Commission,
the United Nations (UN), the World Bank, and the German Society for Technical
Cooperation (GTZ). In 1996–1997 he worked for the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He has published his research in
leading journals. In 2008, he received the Slovenian state Zois recognition for
important scientific achievements in the field of economics.
