Michal Sobkowski graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and received his PhD in 1997 in organic chemistry at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, under the supervision of Prof. A. Kraszewski. After a postdoctoral fellowship (1998–2000) in the lab of Prof. H. Seliger at Ulm University (Germany), he returned to IBCh PAS in Poznan, where he is now an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Chemistry of Nucleic Acid Components. His research activities are focused on the organophosphorus chemistry of natural products, in particular, synthetic, mechanistic, and stereochemical investigations into phosphorus-modified analogs of nucleotides and oligonucleotides.
