Myometrial invasion affects the prognosis of endometrial cancer. However, discrepancies exist between pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging staging and post-operative pathological staging. This study aims to validate the accuracy of artificial intelligence (AI) for detecting the depth of myometrial invasion using a deep learning technique on magnetic resonance images. We obtained 4896 contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images (T1w) and T2-weighted images (T2w) from 72 patients who were diagnosed with surgico-pathological stage I endometrial carcinoma. We used the images from 24 patients (33.3%) to train the AI. The images from the remaining 48 patients (66.7%) were used to evaluate the accuracy of the model. The AI then interpreted each of the cases and sorted them into stage IA or IB. Compared with the accuracy rate of radiologists’ diagnoses (77.8%), the accuracy rate of AI interpretation in contrast-enhanced T1w was higher (79.2%), whereas that in T2w was lower (70.8%). The diagnostic accuracy was not significantly different between radiologists and AI for both T1w and T2w. However, AI was more likely to provide incorrect interpretations in patients with coexisting benign leiomyomas or polypoid tumors. Currently, the ability of this AI technology to make an accurate diagnosis has limitations. However, in hospitals with limited resources, AI may be able to assist in reading magnetic resonance images. We believe that AI has the potential to assist radiologists or serve as a reasonable alternative for pre-operative evaluation of the myometrial invasion depth of stage I endometrial cancers.

This study explores the prevalence of strategic human resources management (HRM) practices in nonprofit organizations as well as the organizational and contextual determinants. Based on survey data collected from 229 charitable nonprofit organizations, we find that organizations that are larger in size, technologically savvy, and dependent on the work of independent contractors all appear to be more likely to implement strategic HRM practices. Local affiliates of national organizations are more likely to implement strategic HRM practices. In addition, younger organizations, educational organizations, and organizations that do not have dedicated HR staff are also more likely to implement strategic HRM practices. Although dependence on volunteer labor has no significant effect on the outcome, further analysis indicates that volunteer-dependent organizations differ from others in several aspects of strategic HRM.

Prior research indicates that public employees are more risk averse than private employees. Little is known, however, about the causes of such differences. This study tries to examine the effects of the “self-select mechanism” and asks the following question: Do workers choose their sectors based on their risk preferences? Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey, this study finds that higher levels of risk aversion are predictive of a greater propensity to pursue careers in the public sector. Findings indicate that an individual’s risk preference is the key to his or her career choices. Managerial implications and suggestions are discussed.

Public employees' whistleblowing is an effective anti‐corruption means because they can provide rigorous evidence of wrongdoing in public organizations. However, whistleblowing may cause risks to the individuals and their organization, which discourage them from reporting. While the topic has been understudied, a few studies have adopted the theory of planned behavior (TPB) from psychology to gain insights into whistleblowing. However, these studies have overlooked the unique characteristics of the public sector and the contextual factors surrounding whistleblowing. Our research aims to fill this gap by incorporating these missing elements into the theoretical framework and thus developing an adapted TPB. Using survey data from Taiwan, this study provides empirical evidence to support the adapted TPB in explaining the intention of public employees to blow the whistle. .

Universities and colleges around the world are exploring ways of reorganizing curricula to educate future leaders in sustainability. Preservice teachers hold tremendous potential to introduce concepts of sustainability far earlier than post-secondary education. However, there is little research of such efforts to yield changes in future elementary school classrooms. This article shares a new, required course—Sustainability Science for Teachers (SSFT)—that is designed to present sustainability topics to preservice teachers. Using the course as a case, we ask: Do preservice teachers acquire skills and content knowledge in sustainability, and does that experience translate to elementary classrooms? Pre- and post-test data from 234 students and a follow-up survey with 103 respondents offers evidence towards addressing this question. Analysis shows preservice teachers gain skills in systems thinking and develop content knowledge in sustainability. This study suggests sustainability is being introduced into elementary classrooms after preservice teachers were required to take a course in sustainability.
