Biography

Matteo Spagnuolo is Associate Professor in Agricultural Chemistry at the Department of Soil, Plant and Food Science of the University of Bari (Italy). He received a M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Science in 1994 from the University of Bari with full marks and honours and earned the Ph.D in 1998 in Agricultural Chemistry. He has been Post Doc at Cornell University working on a project of soil remediation (1998/1999). An important part of the research activity concerned the environmental soil chemistry. He investigated the processes influencing the bioavailability of organic xenobiotics and potentially toxic elements in soil. In particular, the assessment of the bioavailability and ecotoxicity of organic and inorganic pollutants with earthworms has been an important part of the activity. Speciation studies of potentially toxic elements in polluted sites and soil remediation techniques have been investigated with direct spectroscopic, using X-rays (also synchrotron based X-rays) and microscopic studies in our settled “micro X-ray LAB” (www.microxraylab.com).
