Biography

I have been a professor of microbiology at the URV since 2021. Other positions held have been university professor (2001) and university school professor (1994). My teaching activity is linked to the areas of biology and microbiology, teaching different subjects in the degrees of Medicine, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Oenology. I have been a coordinator of different doctoral programs and am now a member of the doctoral committee in Biomedicine of the Faculty of Medicine at the URV. I am part of a research group (2017 SGR 345) with more than 30 years of experience in the study of microscopic fungi. My research focuses on the micromycetes, studying the phylogeny and taxonomy of environmental fungi and human pathogenic fungi. The scientific production of both lines is summarized in the publication of more than 200 original articles, about 120 derived from basic research and the rest in the field of clinical mycology. In recent decades, this basic research has been developed thanks to grants from the ministry, being IP in five of them. I have molecularly and morphologically characterized more than 300 new taxa, some of great impact on human health and the basis of study for other research groups in medical mycology. I have supervised a total of 13 doctoral theses. I am the co-author of several books, among them the 'Atlas of Clinical Fungi'.
