Carmen Alvarez-Lorenzo, Ph.D. in Pharmacy with Extraordinary Awards, is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) (1998–2001) and a “Ramón y Cajal” researcher at USC (2001–2006). She has been the PI of numerous regional, national, and international projects. She is the co-author of more than 360 articles, 40 book chapters, 20 patents, and more than 450 conference contributions and invited lectures, and co-editor of two books. She has a h-index of 74 (Google Scholar, May 2023). She is ranked 7th in the h-index in Pharmacology and Pharmacy in Spain and is among the 100 Best Resident Scientists in Spain. She has been president of the Drafting Committee and Coordinator of the Interuniversity Master (USC-UVigo) in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2018–2022). She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Controlled Release and Carbohydrate Polymers and an Editor of the International Journal of Pharmaceutics. She is a Numerary Academician of the Royal Galician Academy of Pharmacy and the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and she received the Angeles Alvariño Medal 2021. She is currently the coordinator of the Competitive Reference Group I + DFarma (Xunta de Galicia) and director of the USC Materials Institute (iMATUS).
