ZnO/MWCNTs nanocomposite has significant potential in photocatalytic and environmental treatment. Unfortunately, its photocatalytic efficacy is not high enough due to its poor light absorbance and quick recombination of photo-generated carriers, which might be improved by incorporation with noble metal nanoparticles. Herein, Ag-doped ZnO/MWCNTs nanocomposite was prepared using a pulsed laser ablation approach in the liquid media and examined as a degradable catalyst for Rhodamine B. (RhB). Different techniques were used to confirm the formation of the nanostructured materials (ZnO and Ag) and the complete interaction between them and MWCNTs. X-ray diffraction pattern revealed the hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO and Ag. Additionally, UV-visible absorption spectrum was used to study the change throughout the shift in the transition energies, which affected the photocatalytic degradation. Furthermore, the morphological investigation by a scanning electron microscope showed the successful embedding and decoration of ZnO and Ag on the outer surface of CNTs. Moreover, the oxidation state of the formed final nanocomposite was investigated via an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. After that, the photocatalytic degradations of RhB were tested using the prepared catalysts. The results showed that utilizing Ag significantly impacted the photo degradation of RhB by lowering the charge carrier recombination, leading to 95% photocatalytic degradation after 12 min. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of the produced nanocomposite was attributed to the role of the Ag dopant in generating more active oxygen species. Moreover, the impacts of the catalyst amount, pH level, and contact time were discussed.

Great efforts are constantly being made by industry-specific coffee agencies to standardize the certification of coffee quality. In consequence, international trade requires quick and reliable analyses because of their high cost, the risk of misclassification, the difficulty of large-scale analysis, and, most importantly, the subjectivity generated by tasters. A powerful analytical method that can be used to accurately evaluate and identify coffee varieties is Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). In this study, it provided a quick, cost-effective, and residue-free method commonly used in laboratories for direct analysis, determining multi-elemental composition, and exploring the organic composition of roasted coffee. The mineral composition of eight varieties of pure roasted coffee was determined using a pulsed nanosecond laser produced from a Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm. The most important spectral variables for coffee variety identification were sequestered using LIBS coupled with a chemometric-tool-based principal component analysis (PCA). The nine main wavelengths chosen corresponded to the elements of C(I), Mg(II, I), Ca(II), Fe(I), K(I), H(I), and O(I), in addition to the CN group. The overall findings indicated that using LIBS to identify coffee varieties is feasible based on a simple, quick, and eco-friendly strategy without the requirement for complex preparation or wasting time in preparation. Such studies can help to protect the coffee market and businesses by certifying product quality. Using LIBS and full statistical illustrations with PCA, the prevention of unfair competition, protection of consumers, and determination of coffee quality can be achieved.

The high-quality n-type CdS on a p-type Si (111) photodetector device was prepared for the first time by a one-pot method based on an ns laser ablation method in a liquid medium. Cadmium target was ablated in DMSO solution, containing sulfur precursor, and stirred, assisting in 1D-growth, to create the sulfide structure as CdS nano-ropes form, followed by depositing on the Si-substrate by spin coating. The morphological, structural, and optical characteristics of the CdS structure were examined using X-ray diffraction, transmission, and scanning electron microscopy, photoluminescence, and UV-VIS spectroscopy. From X-ray diffraction analysis, the growing CdS spheres have a good crystal nature, with a high purity and desired c-axis orientation along the (002) plane, and the crystallinity was around 30 nm. According to optical characterization, high transparency was found in the visible–near-infrared areas of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the CdS spheres have a direct optical energy band gap of 3.2 eV. After that, the CdS/Si hetero-structured device was found to be improved remarkably after adding CdS. It showed that the forward current is constantly linear, while the dark current is around 4.5 µA. Up to a bias voltage of 4 V, there was no breakdown, and the reverse current of the heterojunctions somewhat increased with reverse bias voltage, while the photocurrent reached up to 580 and 690 µA for using 15 and 30 W/cm2 light power, respectively. Additionally, the ideal factors for CdS/Si heterojunction were 3.1 and 3.3 for 15 and 30 W/cm2 light power, respectively. These results exhibited high performance compared to the same heterojunction produced by other techniques. In addition, this opens the route for obtaining more enhancements of these values based on the changing use of sulfide structures in the heterojunction formation.

Metal coins discovered during archaeology have artistic and cultural value. Careful cleaning is required for artifact conservation. Metal artifacts must be cleaned to remove corrosion, which can range from tarnishing to a thick crust, in addition to dust, previous coatings, and burial deposits. Cleaning corrosion is still a challenging conservation process, but the advantages of using traditional cleaning methods outweigh the disadvantages. The current study aimed to evaluate the use of a nanosecond infrared Q-switched Nd: YAG pulsed laser for biodeteriogen elimination by laser cleaning and elemental analysis via LIBS analysis on old, corroded coins. The corroded coins used in this study were found in Egyptian burial dirt. Four different varieties of unknown corroded coins were exposed to laser cleaning testing. Throughout the cleaning process, LIBS diagnostics was used to monitor the laser ablation process as it removed various types of corrosion products. The coins were analyzed with a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer before and after the laser cleaning to assess the efficacy of the suggested laser setup technique used in this experiment (SEM-EDX). The results show a reduction in the spectral lines of corroded metals (Cu, Ca, and Mg) in the investigated coins after cleaning when compared to the original analyses. However, the surface morphology of each coin changes somewhat due to the presence of CuOx, which was recognized by increasing the strength of O lines, ensuring the viability of utilizing LIBS to identify the unknown coins tested.

This study introduces an innovative analytical solution to the time-fractional Cattaneo heat conduction equation, which models photothermal transport in metallic thin films subjected to short laser pulse irradiation. The model integrates the Caputo fractional derivative of order 0 < p ≤ 1, addressing non-Fourier heat conduction characterized by finite wave speed and memory effects. The equation is nondimensionalized through suitable scaling, incorporating essential elements such as a newly specified laser absorption coefficient and uniform initial and boundary conditions. A hybrid approach utilizing the finite Fourier cosine transform (FFCT) in spatial dimensions and the Laplace transform in temporal dimensions produces a closed-form solution, which is analytically inverted using the two-parameter Mittag–Leffler function. This function inherently emerges from fractional-order systems and generalizes traditional exponential relaxation, providing enhanced understanding of anomalous thermal dynamics. The resultant temperature distribution reflects the spatiotemporal progression of heat from a spatially Gaussian and temporally pulsed laser source. Parametric research indicates that elevating the fractional order and relaxation time amplifies temporal damping and diminishes thermal wave velocity. Dynamic profiles demonstrate the responsiveness of heat transfer to thermal and optical variables. The innovation resides in the meticulous analytical formulation utilizing a realistic laser source, the clear significance of the absorption parameter that enhances the temperature amplitude, the incorporation of the Mittag–Leffler function, and a comprehensive investigation of fractional photothermal effects in metallic nano-systems. This method offers a comprehensive framework for examining intricate thermal dynamics that exceed experimental capabilities, pertinent to ultrafast laser processing and nanoscale heat transfer.
