Concetta Gugliandolo is full professor of Ecology and Director of the Research Centre of Extreme Environments and Extremophiles at the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences, University of Messina (UniMe). She obtained a degree in biology cum summa laude in 1982, earned her Ph.D. in environmental sciences in 1992 from UniMe, and became a researcher (2008–2014) at UniMe. Since 2013, she has been member of the Doctorate in Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine. Her research interests include microbial ecology, environmental and applied microbiology, and marine biotechnology with a focus on the following main topics: microbial community distribution and diversity in aquatic environments; microbial quality of water, sediments, and shellfish; relationships among planktonic organisms and bacterial pathogens; biodiversity and biotechnological applications of bacteria from extreme environments.
