Prof. Dr. Maria Gazouli is a Professor of Biology—Nanomedicine at the School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She was admitted as a PhD student at the Biology Department and Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She continued her post-doc training in the Cell Biology Department, Georgetown University Medical Center, USA. From 2000 to 2001, she was a Research Fellow at NCSR Demokritos, Institute of Biology, and from 2001 to 2003, she was a Research Fellow at the Department of Histology—Embryology, School of Medicine, NKUA. From 2004 to 2006, she was a Technical Scientist at the Laboratory of Biology, School of Medicine, NKUA. In 2007, she joined the NKUA Medical School as a Lecturer of Biology, in 2012, she was promoted to an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology, and in 2016, she was promoted to an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology. In 2020, she was promoted to Professor of Biology—Nanomedicine. Her work refers mainly to the genetic and molecular basis of diseases, mainly autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, and cancer, as well as to the molecular detection of pathogens and the investigation of the pathogenesis of the diseases they cause in humans and animals. Recently, she was involved in the incorporation of nanotechnology for targeted cancer detection, imaging, and drug delivery. Currently, she is the National Representative of the European Medicine Association in the Committee of Advanced Therapies.
