Biography

In 1971, he graduated from the Crimean Agricultural Institute named after M. I. Kalinin. In 1976, he entered the graduate school of VIR and performed dissertation work in the department of photosynthesis and productivity. After graduating from graduate school from 1979 until November 1998, he worked in the Department of Plant Physiology. In 1993, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic: "Photosynthetic activity and production process of new and old varieties of spring wheat of the North-Western non-chernozem zone of Russia". Together with the staff of the department, he conducted a study of photosynthetic indicators of the production process of plants and investigated the problem of frost and winter hardiness of varieties of the VIR world collection. In December 1998, he was transferred to work in the laboratory of long-term storage of the plant gene pool, where he began research on the frost resistance of cuttings of fruit crops and the possibility of their artificial hardening due to long-term storage at ultra-low temperatures. Since 2000, he has been Head of the LDHGR cryopreservation group, conducted scientific research on the development of methods for low-temperature and cryogenic storage of vegetative shoots, buds, and pollen of fruit crops, and is also engaged in laying fruit crop samples for cryopreservation.
