Biography

Illich Manfred Mombo is focused on emerging zoonotic diseases. He received his PhD degree in 2015 from the University of Montpellier (France). At that time, his topic was the molecular characterization of enteric viruses that can cross the barrier species and can be transmitted between humans and captive and/or wild nonhuman primates. He joined the Department of Virology at the Centre International de Recherches Medicales de Franceville (CIRMF) in 2016 for postdoctoral studies. He started to work on the "Ebola Disease," specifically concentrating on the natural and domestic cycles of the Ebolavirus, the identification of which animals could be implicated in those cycles, as well as how epidemics occur. In 2017, he became a permanent researcher at CIRMF, where he developed studies focused on the zoonotic and potentially zoonotic viruses hosted by wild and domestic animals at the human-animal interface.
