Biography

While my laboratory is studying the molecular rmechanisms by which RNA binding proteins and molecular pathways regulate alternative splicing, I have always been interested in understanding how cells couple distinct processes. We uncovered one of the first physical interaction between transcription and splicing machineries. Additional connections between transcription and splicing were later carried out collaboratively. We explored how the splicing regulator hnRNP A1 was contributing to telomere biogenesis. I have also demonstrated an interest towards applying fundamental discoveries to the applied and clinical settings. For example, in 2000, I launched a biotech company (Telogene Inc.), and I have developed antisense technology to reprogram splicing decisions. We have created in Sherbrooke a RT-PCR platform to expand inquiries about misregulated splicing in many diseases including cancer, dystrophies and during viral infection.
