Lorenzo Bini is a Ph.D. student at the Department of Agriculture, Environment, Food, and Forestry (DAGRI) of the University of Florence (Italy). He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2017 and a master’s degree in Agro-Environmental Biotechnology in 2019, both at the University of Florence. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s thesis on phytopathology. He has studied Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria at the molecular level, focusing on transmembrane proteins, site-directed mutagenesis, and the development of specific probes for the early diagnosis of plant pathogens. He also carried out an internship at NEXT GENOMICS in Prato (Italy), dealing with tools for molecular docking analysis in 2017. He worked as a research fellow at the Interdepartmental Service Centre for Agricultural, Chemical, and Industrial Biotechnologies (CIBIACI), University of Florence, in the period between 2020 and 2021. His main research areas were population genetics analysis using different molecular markers (SSRs, AFLP, and ISSRs), plant barcoding, and Sanger sequencing, especially on fruit trees. Moreover, he worked on statistical analysis and bioinformatics, developing NGS data managing expertise. Nowadays, he is a Ph.D. student, and he worked on the application of soilless cultivation techniques, along with wastewater irrigation, in different plant species, evaluating their response from a morphological, physiological, and genetic point of view.
