M. Burnier is Emeritus Professor of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, after being the head of the Service of Nephrology and Hypertension between 2004 and 2018. His main research interests are hypertension and its renal causes, with a special focus on sodium and the development of hypertension.
