The aim of this study is to compare the screen time and digital gaming habits of Turkish children before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in a university hospital between May 7, 2020 and June 27, 2020. Healthy children aged 3–10 years who applied to the pediatrics clinics for outpatient care were included in the study. A structured survey was applied to the parents who agreed to participate. A total of 253 children were included in the study. It was found that the ratio of children with screen time of ≥1 hour during the pandemic was significantly higher than before the pandemic (p<0.001). It was determined that the ratio of children watching both adult and children’s programs increased during the pandemic (p<0.001). The ratio of children playing digital games during the pandemic was also found to be increased significantly compared with that before the pandemic (p<0.001). This study demonstrated that screen and digital gaming time increased independently of sociodemographic characteristics during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with before the pandemic.

Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract(CAKUT) are the leading causes of childhood chronic kidney disease (CKD). The etiology of most of the cases is thought to be multifactorial. In this study, risk factors for CAKUT and the effect of mobile phone-related electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure during pregnancy were investigated.Materials and methods: Fifty-seven cases and 57 healthy controls under 2 years of age were included and their mothers were subjected to a questionnaire. Groups were compared for parents’ demographics, pregestational (chronic disease, body mass index, use of the folic acid supplements) and antenatal variables (gestational disease, weight gain during pregnancy,) and exposures during pregnancy. To assess mobile phone-related radiation exposure, all participants were asked about their daily call time, the proximity of the phone when not in use, and the models of their mobile phones. The specific absorption rate (SAR) of the mobile phones and the effective SAR value (SAR × call time) as an indicator of EMF exposure were recorded. Results: Excess weight gain according to BMI during pregnancy was related to an increased risk of CAKUT (p=0.012). Folic acid use before pregnancy was protective for CAKUT (p = 0.028). The call time of mothers of the CAKUT group was significantly longer than the control (p = 0.001). An association was observed between higher effective SAR values and increased risk of CAKUT (p = 0.03). However the proximity of the mobile phone to the mother’s body when not in use was not found as a risk factor. Conclusion: The etiology of CAKUT is multifactorial. O hone call and higher EMF exposure duringpregnancy increases the risk of CAKUT in the offspring.

Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten, leading to digestive issues, malabsorption, nutritional deficiencies, mental health effects, and long-term health risks. Previous studies have indicated that increased attention directed to food in CD treated with a gluten-free diet may increase the risk of eating disorders (ED). Although Orthorexia Nervosa (ON), defined as an obsession with healthy eating, is not yet considered an ED in an official diagnostic system, it is similar to ED in some of its features. ON in adolescents with CD has not been explored in the existing literature. We aimed to compare ON symptoms, eating attitudes, anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms between adolescents with and without CD in this study. The study involved 30 adolescents with CD and 30 healthy controls. Participants were assessed using the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children-Present and Lifetime version (K-SADS-PL) in a semi-structured clinical interview. The risk of ON was evaluated with the ORTO-11 questionnaire while eating attitudes were measured using the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-40). Anxiety, depression, and OCD symptoms were compared between the adolescents with and without CD using the parent and child forms of the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS). ON symptoms and impaired eating attitudes were higher in adolescents with CD than in the healthy control group. No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of anxiety, depression, and OCD symptoms. In the correlation analysis of the RCADS-child form with other scales, there was a positive correlation between ON symptoms, impaired eating attitudes, and OCD symptoms. When the correlation analysis of the RCADS-parent form with other scales was examined, no significant correlation was found. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to evaluate ON in adolescents diagnosed with CD, and our results show that there is an increase in the frequency of ON and impaired eating attitudes in CD. Additionally, we found that the increase in OCD symptoms in adolescents with CD was associated with ON and impaired eating attitudes. Orthorexia describes a person’s obsessive preoccupation with healthy eating. In this study, we investigated the orthorexia tendency and eating attitudes of adolescents with celiac disease(CD). We examined the relationship between orthorexia tendencies and anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. In our study, a questionnaire was applied to 30 celiac patients and 30 healthy adolescents without CD, and a total of 60 adolescents and their parents. Questionnaire results were compared between adolescents with and without CD. We found that orthorexia tendency and disturbed eating attitudes were more common in adolescents diagnosed with celiac disease, and that obsessive-compulsive symptoms and orthorexia tendency were related. Dietary changes during the treatment of CD may cause deterioration in the adolescent’s eating attitude and an increase in orthorexic tendency during adolescence. Therefore, it is important to perform psychiatric evaluations of adolescents at intervals during the treatment process. Further research is needed to better understand orthorexia in adolescents.

Hepatitis A (HAV) infection, which is the most common form of hepatitis in the paediatric age group and which sometimes has a fulminant course, is endemic in Turkey, constituting one of the country's important health problems. Pleural effusion also represents a rare benign complication of acute HAV infections. We describe here a case of Hepatitis A who developed pleural effusion.
