Hideo Nakajima currently acts as an engineering adviser at Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd., Japan, and is an Emeritus Professor at Osaka University. He received his Ph.D. from Tohoku University in 1977. Then, he was a postdoctoral associate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA, until 1980. From 1980 to 1996, he was a research associate and an associate professor at the Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and a professor of Iwate University. Since 1996, he has been a professor of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University. His research interests involve porous metals (including their fabrication, properties, and application) and diffusion in metals. He was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon from Japan's Emperor in 2009, the Gold Medal from the Japan Institute of Metals in 2019, and the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon from Japan's Emperor in 2022. He is a member of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials Research Society, USA.
