Information

Prof. Gustavo Caetano-Anollés is a Professor of Bioinformatics in the Department of Crop Sciences, Health Innovation Professor in Carle-Illinois College of Medicine, and University Scholar at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign campus. He has an MSc in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biochemical Sciences from the National University of La Plata, Argentina. He went on to become a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Ohio State University and the University of Tennessee and was later promoted to Research Assistant Professor. After that, he became an Associate Professor at the University of Oslo and the Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Ecology and Evolution in the Molecular Biology Division. He then returned to the University of Illinois, where he has taken on a variety of roles. Prof. Caetano-Anollés has edited four books, published well over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed over 100 chapters to books and proceedings. He holds nine patents and invention disclosures. He was awarded the E. Zuckerkandl Prize by Springer Verlag and the International Society of Molecular Evolution in 2003 for exploring the interface of molecular structure and evolution. His current research interests are at the crossroads of structural biology, evolutionary genomics, molecular evolution and systems biology. He studies the origin, structure, and evolution of genomes, proteomes, RNomes and functionomes for applications in bioengineering, biomedicine and synthetic biology.
