Biography

Domenica Musumeci has been an associate professor of organic chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Federico II University of Napoli since 2020. She received her Ph.D. in chemical sciences in 2001. From 2002 to 2009, she worked at the Italian National Research Council (CNR), with which she still collaborates on various research projects. She is the co-author of 96 scientific articles published in international, peer‐reviewed journals, as well as 3 patents, 3 book chapters, and more than 40 oral and/or poster communications presented at international and national conferences. Her main scientific interests are in the following fields: (1) design, synthesis, and applications for oligonucleotide aptamers, especially endowed with G‐quadruplex structures; (2) the conjugation of oligonucleotides and analogs to nanoparticles (magnetic, gold, silica NPs) for biomedical applications; (3) the design, synthesis and characterization of new small‐molecules (including G4 binders, benzodifuran derivatives and Ru(III)‐ and Pt(II)‐based complexes) as potential anticancer drugs targeting G‐quadruplex structures in regulatory genome regions or other important targets in anticancer strategies.
