Dr. Danilo Buonsenso completed his training and medical residency at the School of Pediatrics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy. In 2018, he joined the Department of Women's and Children's Health and Public Health at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario as a pediatrician and, in 2022, concluded his PhD in public health and biomolecular sciences. He is currently a postgraduate diploma student in pediatric infectious diseases at Oxford University. He has expertise in pediatric infectious diseases, lung ultrasound, and pediatric emergency care. His main area of clinical and research activity in pediatric infectious diseases is pediatric tuberculosis; however, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Buonsenso’s research work included studies on the clinical impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection in children, from acute disease to MIS-C and long COVID-19, as well as the indirect impact of the pandemic on child wellbeing, education, and mental health. He is the founder and president of Surf4Children, a non-profit health project that provides people in Sierra Leone with medical support and helps children in Italy with special needs, cystic fibrosis, and type 1 diabetes.
