His research focuses primarily on plant virology, molecular diagnostics, grapevine viruses, and the application of modern molecular and next-generation sequencing approaches in plant disease research and diagnostics. He obtained his PhD in Biotechnical Sciences at the University of Zagreb with a dissertation focused on the detection of viruses in Croatian autochthonous grapevine cultivars using serological, molecular, and biological methods. He completed a Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2011-COFUND fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley, investigating the ecology of emerging grapevine viruses in Croatia and California. Throughout his career, he has participated in and led numerous national and international research projects related to plant viral diseases, grapevine pathology, and sustainable crop protection.
