Biography

Dr. Klementina Pušnik Črešnar is currently leading one of the national research projects of biodegradable and functional plastics material focusing on cellulose-based thermoplastic composites. Her research activities are related to nanomaterial synthesis, adsorption of active substances, interaction phenomena, and characterization of nanomaterial composites, especially the application of antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. In the last 3 years, her research interests have expanded to include the application of nanomaterials in the study of polymer composites, synthesis, crystallization, interfacial phenomena, segment dynamics, degradation mechanisms, and surface properties of thermoplastic nanocomposites, as well as the areas of textile- and cellulose-based chemistry and materials engineering, particularly thermoplastic composites prepared by (reactive) extrusion. In addition, she has extensive knowledge and experience in the field of structural and surface properties of cellulose-based thermoplastic composites as shown in her recent published articles. In the last 2 years, she has authored or co-authored 10 high-impact scientific papers all focused on the development of thermoplastic composites as a potential new active packaging material. She is currently supervising four master's students and one PhD student in the European Horizon project FoodTraNet. She has also actively participated in a research and development project with industry partner Plastika Skaza d.o.o.
