Michael Vohland studied Physical Geography with Geobotany and Remote Sensing as minor subjects. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2002 with a thesis on the optimization of hydrological modeling by integrating optical remote sensing data. From 2003 until 2009, he was Junior Professor for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics at Trier University, Germany. Currently he is a full Professor at Leipzig University, Germany and heads the Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing group at the Institute for Geography. His research interests include hyper- and multispectral remote sensing, portable vis-NIR and MIR spectroscopy, digital soil mapping, vegetation monitoring, the coupling of remote sensing with hydrological simulation models and the application of machine learning and multivariate tools and methods for remote and proximal sensing data analysis.
