Acetochlor is persistently used in the agroproduction sector to control broadleaf weeds. Due to frequent and continuous applications, this herbicide can reach nearby water bodies and may induce deleterious changes in aquatic life. Therefore, investigation of harmful impacts of different environmental pollutants, including herbicides, is vital to knowing the mechanisms of toxicity and devising control strategies. The current experiment included bighead carp (n = 80) to estimate adverse impacts. Fish were randomly placed in 4 different experimental groups (T0‐T3) and were treated for 36 days with acetochlor at 0, 300, 400, and 500 μg/L. Fresh blood without any anticoagulant was obtained and processed for nuclear and morphological changes in erythrocytes. At the same time, various visceral organs, including the gills, liver, brain, and kidneys, were removed and processed on days 12, 24, and 36 to determine oxidative stress and various antioxidant biomarkers. Comet assays revealed significantly increased DNA damage in isolated cells of the liver, kidneys, brain, and gills of treated fish. We recorded increased morphological and nuclear changes (P ≤ 0.05) in the erythrocyte of treated fish. The results on oxidative stress showed a higher quantity of oxidative biomarkers and a significantly (P ≤ 0.05) low concentration of cellular proteins in the gills, liver, brain, and kidneys of treated fish compared to unexposed fish. Our research findings concluded that acetochlor renders oxidative stress in bighead carp.

Vanillin is a flavorful and aromatic secondary metabolite found in vanilla plants. Natural vanillin, produced through processed vanilla beans accounts for scarcely 0.2% of industrial requirements. Vanillin produced via chemical methods and microbial fermentation fills the remaining gap. Among naturally available precursors for biovanillin synthesis, ferulic acid is widely used because of its structural similarity and abundant availability. Herein, various agricultural lignocellulosic by-products (sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw, rice straw, rice bran, and corn cob) were scrutinized for their ferulic acid content, and their biotransformation into biovanillin was examined by solid-state fermentation (SSF). Then, different physicochemical parameters, i.e., moisture content, pH, temperature, inoculum size, and incubation days, were optimized to achieve a high yield of biovanillin using central composite design (CCD) of response surface methodology (RSM). Among agricultural by-products tested, sugarcane bagasse produced 0.029 g/100 g of biovanillin using Enterobacter hormaechei through SSF. After optimization, the highest concentration of biovanillin (0.476 g/100 g) was achieved at a moisture content of 70%, temperature of 37.5 °C, pH 7.5, inoculum size of 4 mL and incubation time of 48 h. The F-value of 6.10 and p-value of 0.002 evidenced the ultimate significance of the model. The significance of the constructed model was supported by the 91.73% coefficient of determination (R2), indicating that the effects of moisture, pH, and temperature were significant. HPLC and FTIR confirmed the sample identification and purity (was reported to be 98.3% pure). In conclusion, sugarcane bagasse appears to be a cost-effective substrate choice for large-scale biovanillin production.

The objective of this research was to assess the impact of 2-methyl-2-nitro-3-guanidine on mammalian species, otherwise not the intended targets, followed by one-time exposure and its adverse effects. Thirty-five Sprague Dawley rats of either male or female sex, aged four weeks, and with an average weight of 80±20g, were divided into three groups randomly: control E exposed and exposed and supplemented with vitamin C, and assigned the titles C,E, and V, respectively. Each group comprised fifteen rats. Both E and V groups were further divided into subgroups: E1, E2, and E3, exposed to LD10, LD25, and LD50 doses of Dinotefuran respectively, and V1, V2, and V3, exposed in the same manner but supplemented with a fixed dose of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Ascorbic acid was administered in aqueous form 35mg/100mL of water and provided ad libitum. Eight hours after exposure to Dinotefuran, 5ml of blood was collected under sedation through the cardiac vein. After 48 hours, two rats randomly selected from each subgroup, including the control group, were anesthetized, euthanized, and dissected. Different body tissues, and the kidney, liver, bones, and heart, were isolated and preserved in formalin solution for subsequent analysis. CBC, liver, renal, and cardiac biomarkers were evaluated. In addition, histopathology and bone characteristics of soft tissues were also conducted. Mortality and morbidity were recorded. The result showed significant disruptions in CBC and other biomarkers related to kidney, liver, and heart in a dose-dependent pattern. Although vitamin supplementation improved the overall outcome, the improvement was not statistically significant. Histopathological examination displayed changes in the exposed (E) group, with no observable improvements with vitamin supplementation. Moreover, the bone-related parameters exhibited similar trends.
