Light rail transit (LRT), an essential urban public transport system in China, significantly reshaped the urban land-use (LU) pattern. Although the LRT impact and land-use change (LUC) analysis plays an essential role in urban planning policy, the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of LRT impacts have not been considered in LUC simulation studies. This study simulates the urban LU change, considering the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of LRT construction impacts on urban LUC. LUC from 1995 to 2005 in Nanjing, China, is chosen as a case study. At first, the distance decay function is employed to verify the quantitative impact of LRT construction on LU change. Accordingly, the variation trends of each LU type during different stages are described in time and space. A cellular automata model incorporated by the generated LRT impact is established and then implemented for simulation. According to model performance assessment results, the proposed model can produce a realistic urban pattern with Freedom of Movement (FoM) exceeding 24% and a significantly lower relative error than the CA simulation without considering LRT influence.

This paper proposes an encoding–decoding network with a pyramidal representation module, which will be referred to as EDPNet, and is designed for efficient semantic image segmentation. On the one hand, during the encoding process of the proposed EDPNet, the enhancement of the Xception network, i.e., Xception+ is employed as a backbone to learn the discriminative feature maps. The obtained discriminative features are then fed into the pyramidal representation module, from which the context-augmented features are learned and optimized by leveraging a multi-level feature representation and aggregation process. On the other hand, during the image restoration decoding process, the encoded semantic-rich features are progressively recovered with the assistance of a simplified skip connection mechanism, which performs channel concatenation between high-level encoded features with rich semantic information and low-level features with spatial detail information. The proposed hybrid representation employing the proposed encoding–decoding and pyramidal structures has a global-aware perception and captures fine-grained contours of various geographical objects very well with high computational efficiency. The performance of the proposed EDPNet has been compared against PSPNet, DeepLabv3, and U-Net, employing four benchmark datasets, namely eTRIMS, Cityscapes, PASCAL VOC2012, and CamVid. EDPNet acquired the highest accuracy of 83.6% and 73.8% mIoUs on eTRIMS and PASCAL VOC2012 datasets, while its accuracy on the other two datasets was comparable to that of PSPNet, DeepLabv3, and U-Net models. EDPNet achieved the highest efficiency among the compared models on all datasets.

GNSS is still not well applied in indoor environments. This is an important challenge for seamless positioning and navigation. Using other sensors to replace and connect is the mainstream practice at present. No matter what technology is used, the problem of real-time optimal station selection is faced in complex indoor environments. In this paper, we first verified the impact of random interference from walkers on positioning signals in an indoor environment. Based on this phenomenon, we proposed a novel real-time dynamic Beacons selection method (RD) in the field of indoor positioning. First, we introduced a machine learning algorithm for real-time anomaly detection of received signals from different Beacons. Then the Beacon selection is completed based on the real-time anomaly detection results and RSSI. In an indoor scene, we verified the positioning accuracy of three other methods when selecting various numbers of Beacons. Then we used the best selection strategies to compare with the RD method. Experiments showed that the RD method can use the least Beacons to obtain higher accuracy and stable positioning results. This paper provides a new idea for real-time optimal selection of signal sources in a complex indoor environment.

This paper proposes an indoor positioning method based on iBeacon technology that combines anomaly detection and a weighted Levenberg-Marquadt (LM) algorithm. The proposed solution uses the isolation forest algorithm for anomaly detection on the collected Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) data from different iBeacon base stations, and calculates the anomaly rate of each signal source while eliminating abnormal signals. Then, a weight matrix is set by using each anomaly ratio and the RSSI value after eliminating the abnormal signal. Finally, the constructed weight matrix and the weighted LM algorithm are combined to solve the positioning coordinates. An Android smartphone was used to verify the positioning method proposed in this paper in an indoor scene. This experimental scenario revealed an average positioning error of 1.540 m and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.748 m. A large majority (85.71%) of the positioning point errors were less than 3 m. Furthermore, the RMSE of the method proposed in this paper was, respectively, 38.69%, 36.60%, and 29.52% lower than the RMSE of three other methods used for comparison. The experimental results show that the iBeacon-based indoor positioning method proposed in this paper can improve the precision of indoor positioning and has strong practicability.

The building contours, as one of the most important features for representing geometry, are widely used in various applications including urban modeling and reconstruction. Automatic extraction of high-fidelity compact contours from unstructured point clouds is rather challenging, and the existing methods are limited in generating global-aware and artifact-free building contours. Here, we approach contour extraction as a Bayesian inference problem. Two ideas are proposed to obtain building contour points and edges directly from unstructured point clouds. First, we construct a point-edge collaborative (PECo) Bayesian framework to couple the information of contour points and contour edges. The developed model fully takes local contour features, global edge structures, and global geometric priors into account. Second, given the Bayesian framework for building contouring, we leverage an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm to iteratively infer the contour edges in a maximum posteriori manner. The alternate EM iterations between point and edge domains progressively refine the local pointwise information to a global representation of contour edges. As a result, a synergistic effect between the point features and edge structures for global-aware building contouring is attained. Our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of geometric accuracy and structural compactness in modeling buildings with various complexities. Furthermore, the compactness of the contouring results can be more flexible and easily controlled.
