Marta De Giorgi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Innovation Engineering of the University of Salento, where she previously progressed through post-doctoral and fixed-term assistant professor positions after earning her Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in 2002. Her research combines numerical and experimental approaches to study fatigue phenomena, residual stresses, welded joints, metallic foams, and advanced composites. More recently, as the scientific coordinator of an international agreement with the Materials and Structures by Design Lab at Harvard University, she expanded her work into kirigami-based metamaterials field.
She has carried out extensive teaching activities for the following courses: Experimental Mechanics and Computer-Aided Design, Technical and Industrial Drawing, Computer-Aided Design for Aerospace Applications, and Machine Design. She has conducted extensive testing activities on aerospace-grade composite materials—also serving as coordinator and supervisor—commissioned by some of the world's leading aerospace companies. She has authored over 60 research papers, primarily published in indexed international journals. She additionally contributes to the field as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for various international journals.
