Sofia A. D. Engrola currently works as a Researcher at the Aquaculture Research Group (AquaGroup), Centro de Ciências do Mar do Algarve (Faro, Portugal). She is the leader of the Aquaculture Research Group and a member of the Scientific Council. She received her BS in Marine Biology and Fisheries (Fisheries Branch) in 1998 and her PhD in Aquaculture, specialty Nutrition in 2008 from the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Technology, University of Algarve (Portugal). She has expertise in fish nutrition, with relevancy in larvae nutrition physiology and feeding, and also in understanding fish metabolic plasticity in response to dietary nitrogen, namely the trade-offs between growth performance and innovative diets. Her main activities within CCMAR include the coordination of experiments concerning larval nutrition and metabolic programming, and she is responsible for the fish larvae and juvenile experiments, responsible for the in vivo metabolic studies with radiolabelled tracers, and contract research activities on larval and juvenile performance.
