Biography

Antonis Sakellarios is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at the University of Patras in Greece. Prior to his appointment, he was an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina and an associate researcher at the FORTH Biomedical Research Institute. Antonis’ interests lie in the understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases, organs and systems using computational approaches, digital twins, and simulations. His work focuses on the development of multi-scale models combining 3D mechanistic modelling approaches with artificial intelligence and machine learning. He aims to integrate such models into decision support systems for clinical practice. A major part of his work regards the computational modelling of the atherosclerotic plaque development. He participated as a researcher in European and National projects related to atherosclerosis, heart failure, stent deployment, and others.
