Purpose: Spermidine (SPD) is a naturally occurring polyamine. In this study, we examined the role and possible mechanism of SPD in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice. Materials and Methods: CIA mice were intraperitoneally injected with SPD (2 and 50 mg/kg), dexamethasone (0.5 mg/kg), or saline daily for 21 days. The severity of the disease and inflammatory responses in the serum and joint tissue were assessed through macroscopic, immunohistochemical, and histological analyses. Results: Macroscopic and histological results indicated that SPD protected against the development of CIA. SPD suppressed the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-1β and increased the levels of the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 in the serum. Immunohistochemical staining showed that 50 mg/kg SPD inhibited iNOS expression in synovial macrophages in the ankle joints of CIA mice. Conclusion: These results suggest that SPD may protect CIA mice by inhibiting the polarization of M1 macrophages in the synovial tissue, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, and promoting anti-inflammatory factor release.
Aim: This study was conducted to understand the research hotspots, research trends and research frontiers for hypothermia in surgical patients and provide a reference for developing effective measures to reduce the incidence of hypothermia in these patients.Design: Using CiteSpace software, a visual analysis of 1288 included articles related to hypothermia in surgical patients was performed. Methods: CiteSpace software is a Java application that supports knowledge research, data visualization and analysis of literature databases. The following data were retrieved: title, abstract, year, keywords, author, academic institution, journal and citations. The included literature was analysed using CiteSpace visualization software, knowledge mapping, collaborative network analysis, cluster analysis and highlighting keywords for visualization. Results: A total of 1288 articles related to hypothermia in surgical patients were included, with the largest number of articles published in the United States (448), followed by in Germany (104) and China (102). The top three institutions, journals and authors were from the United States. The most common keywords were perioperative ‘hypothermia’, ‘risk factors’ and ‘anesthesia’.

The current situation of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) worldwide is still very severe. Presently, many breakthroughs have been accomplished in the research and development of drugs for the treatment of COVID-19, especially vaccines; however, some of the so-called COVID-19-specific drugs highlighted in the early stage failed to achieve the expected curative effect. There is no antiviral therapy available, by stimulating protective immunity vaccine is the best choice for the future management of infection. Therefore, we aimed to identify the latest developments in the research and development of these drugs and vaccines and provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Glycosylation alterations, a key driver throughout tumorigenesis and tumor progression, could regulate the microenvironment and immune response as well as lead to harmful metabolism and cell signaling. In this study, we first comprehensively evaluated the glycosylation modification patterns of LGGs based on glycosyltransferase family genes and systematically integrated these modification patterns with tumor metabolism and immune microenvironment characteristics. Glycosylation score was also developed to quantify glycosylation modification patterns of individuals. As a result, two glycosylation modification patterns were identified, with distinct prognosis, metabolism, and immune microenvironment features. The glycosylation subtype A and cluster A were characterized by higher carbohydrates and amino acid metabolism activity, higher levels of infiltrating cells, and poor prognosis, whereas an opposite modification pattern was observed in glycosylation subtype B and cluster B. In addition, a high glycosylation score is closer to a microenvironment characterized by chronic inflammation, immunosuppression, and tumor promotion. Following analysis and validation, the glycosylation score was a reliable and independent prognostic index. More importantly, the glycosylation score influenced the response to immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy, which provided a novel insight into promoting personalized therapy in the future and may contribute to developing novel therapeutic drugs or exploring promising drug combination therapy strategies.

Purpose: We aimed to explore the clinical diagnostic value of combined detection via protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II (PIVKA-II), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and D-dimer (D-D) in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: We analyzed PIVKA-II, AFP, and D-D levels in 291 subjects comprising liver cirrhosis (LC) patients (n = 143) and HCC patients (n = 148). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyze and compare the clinical diagnostic value of the three biomarkers for HBV-related HCC alone and in combination. Results: The levels of PIVKA-II, AFP, and D-D were positively correlated with tumor size in HCC patients. The levels of PIVKA-II and AFP in early-stage HCC, advanced HCC, HBV DNA+ HCC, and HBV DNA- HCC patients were higher than those in LC patients, while the levels of D-D were lower. The area under the curve for combined detection was greater than that for single-index detection in early-stage HCC, advanced HCC, HBV DNA+ HCC, and HBV DNA- HCC patients. Conclusion: D-D may be a useful biomarker for the diagnosis of HBV-related HCC. The combined detection of PIVKA-II, AFP, and D-D had better diagnostic value for different types of HCC than the detection of individual biomarkers.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains one of the most serious and prevalent health problems in the world. To determine the serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) RNA levels in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) with low HBV DNA levels and analyze the influencing factors. Seventy-two CHB patients with low HBV DNA levels were enrolled and divided into 2 groups according to hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) status; their age, sex, the incidence of HBV RNA level < lower limit of detection (LLD), and serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), quantitative determination of HBsAg (qHBsAg), HBV DNA, and HBV RNA levels were compared. The factors influencing serum HBV RNA levels < LLD and the correlation between serum HBV RNA levels, and serum ALT, AST, qHBsAg and HBV DNA levels were analyzed. In HBeAg-positive patients, serum AST, qHBsAg and HBV RNA levels were higher, and serum HBV DNA levels and incidence of HBV RNA < LLD were lower than those in HBeAg-negative patients (p < 0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that HBeAg is a factor that significantly influences serum HBV RNA levels in patients with CHB (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that HBeAg and qHBsAg are factors that influence serum HBV RNA levels < LLD in patients with CHB. In HBeAg-positive patients, serum HBV RNA levels were positively correlated with qHBsAg and HBeAg. The serum HBV RNA levels in CHB patients with low HBV DNA levels varied according to HBeAg status. The HBeAg is a factor that significantly influences serum HBV RNA levels in patients with CHB, while HBeAg and qHBsAg are factors that significantly influence serum HBV RNA levels < LLD in patients with CHB.
