This paper presents a fast coordinated control scheme of the rotor side converter (RSC), the Direct Current (DC) chopper and the grid side converter (GSC) of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine generators (WTGs) to improve the low voltage ride through (LVRT) and high voltage ride through (HVRT) capability of the DFIG WTGs. The characteristics of DFIG WTGs under voltage sags and swells were studied focusing on the DFIG WTG stator flux and rotor voltages during the transient periods of grid voltage changes. The protection schemes of the rotor crowbar circuit and the DC chopper circuit were proposed considering the characteristics of the DFIG WTGs during voltage changes. The fast coordinated control of RSC and GSC were developed based on the characteristic analysis in order to realize efficient LVRT and HVRT of the DFIG WTGs. The proposed fast coordinated control schemes were verified by time domain simulations using Matlab-Simulink.

This paper presents the day-ahead energy planning of passenger cars with 100% electric vehicle (EV) penetration in the Nordic region by 2050. EVs will play an important role in the future energy systems which can both reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transport sector and provide the demand side flexibility required by smart grids. On the other hand, the EVs will increase the electricity consumption. In order to quantify the electricity consumption increase due to the 100% EV penetration in the Nordic region to facilitate the power system planning studies, the day-ahead energy planning of EVs has been investigated with different EV charging scenarios. Five EV charging scenarios have been considered in the energy planning analysis which are: uncontrolled charging all day, uncontrolled charging at home, timed charging, spot price based charging all day and spot price based charging at home. The demand profiles of the five charging analysis show that timed charging is the least favorable charging option and the spot priced based EV charging might induce high peak demands. The EV charging demand will have a considerable share of the energy consumption in the future Nordic power system.

Establishing a symmetrical model of surrounding vehicles and accurately obtaining the driving state of the surrounding vehicles in the driving environment can improve the safety of driving, which is an important issue that needs to be considered in the automatic driving system or auxiliary driving system. Therefore, we propose an adaptive unscented Kalman filter algorithm based on Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) theory to estimate the state of target vehicle in the high-speed driving environment. To be specific, we use the Constant Turn Rate and Acceleration (CTRA) theory to establish the target vehicle kinematics model, simultaneously, in order to overcome the problem of estimator failure when the yaw rate is close to zero, a simplified version of the CTRA model is also introduced into the estimation process. In addition, the parameter adaptation strategy is added, so the proposed estimator can overcome the uncertainty of the noise model and improve its accuracy. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed state estimation algorithm is verified on the Carsim and Simulink co-simulation platform. The results of simulations and experiments show that the accuracy and stability of IMM-based algorithm is better than the single-model algorithm in different scenarios, and the parameter adaptation strategy brings performance improvement.

Feature-based pedestrian detection method is currently the mainstream direction to solve the problem of pedestrian detection. In this kind of method, whether the appropriate feature can be extracted is the key to the comprehensive performance of the whole pedestrian detection system. It is believed that the appearance of a pedestrian can be better captured by the combination of edge/local shape feature and texture feature. In this field, the current method is to simply concatenate HOG (histogram of oriented gradient) features and LBP (local binary pattern) features extracted from an image to produce a new feature with large dimension. This kind of method achieves better performance at the cost of increasing the number of features. In this paper, Choquet integral based on the signed fuzzy measure is introduced to fuse HOG and LBP descriptors in parallel that is expected to improve accuracy without increasing feature dimensions. The parameters needed in the whole fusion process are optimized by a training algorithm based on genetic algorithm. This architecture has three advantages. Firstly, because the fusion of HOG and LBP features is parallel, the dimensions of the new features are not increased. Secondly, the speed of feature fusion is fast, thus reducing the time of pedestrian detection. Thirdly, the new features after fusion have the advantages of HOG and LBP features, which is helpful to improve the detection accuracy. The series of experimentation with the architecture proposed in this paper reaches promising and satisfactory results.

This paper investigates the stability mechanisms and suppression strategies for sub-synchronous oscillations (SSOs) in hybrid wind farms (HWFs) consisting of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) and permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind turbines. To address the challenges in mitigating SSOs due to the complex interactions between the generators in hybrid wind farms, as well as external and parameters disturbances, a state-space model of the HWF is developed to capture the impact of external disturbances and parameter uncertainties on system dynamics. Through eigenvalue and participation factor analyses, this paper examines the effects of uncertainties in voltage control parameters, grid line series compensation, and the fluctuating power outputs of DFIGs and PMSGs on SSO behavior. A robust SSO suppression controller based on H∞ theory is proposed, demonstrating a substantial reduction in harmonic distortion and improved settling time compared to conventional control strategies under varying disturbances. The simulation results show that the proposed controller significantly enhances the system’s resilience to disturbances and uncertainties, effectively mitigating SSO and improving overall system stability.

This paper provides an H∞ robust control strategy for a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind farm to realize subsynchronous resonance suppression (SSR) subject to uncertain system distortions and parameter perturbation. Firstly, an eighth-order state space mathematical model of a PMSG-based wind farm is established, including the grid-side converter (GSC), GSC controller, and phase-locked loop (PLL) model. Secondly, the SSR characteristics of a PMSG-based wind farm are analyzed through eigenvalue analysis. Thirdly, a robust subsynchronous damping controller is designed based on eigenvalue analysis of SSR. Finally, the designed robust subsynchronous damping controller is validated with case studies of wind farms. The results show that the controller can increase the stability of PMSG-based wind farm systems and restrain SSR.
