Recently, camel milk (CM) has been considered as a health-promoting icon due to its medicinal and nutritional benefits. CM fat globule membrane has numerous health-promoting properties, such as anti-adhesion and anti-bacterial properties, which are suitable for people who are allergic to cow’s milk. CM contains milk fat globules with a small size, which accounts for their rapid digestion. Moreover, it also comprises lower amounts of cholesterol and saturated fatty acids concurrent with higher levels of essential fatty acids than cow milk, with an improved lipid profile manifested by reducing cholesterol levels in the blood. In addition, it is rich in phospholipids, especially plasmalogens and sphingomyelin, suggesting that CM fat may meet the daily nutritional requirements of adults and infants. Thus, CM and its dairy products have become more attractive for consumers. In view of this, we performed a comprehensive review of CM fat’s composition and nutritional properties. The overall goal is to increase knowledge related to CM fat characteristics and modify its unfavorable perception. Future studies are expected to be directed toward a better understanding of CM fat, which appears to be promising in the design and formulation of new products with significant health-promoting benefits.

The genus Cronobacter includes seven species; however, the strains of Cronobacter sakazakii, Cronobacter malonaticus, and Cronobacter turicensis were highly correlated with clinical infections. Rapid and reliable identification of these three species of Cronobacter is important in monitoring and controlling diseases caused by these bacteria. Here, we identified four pairs of novel marker genes for the Cronobacter genus, C. sakazakii, C. malonaticus, and C. turicensis based on large-scale comparative genomic analysis from 799 Cronobacter and 136,146 non-Cronobacter genomes, including 10 Franconibacter and eight Siccibacter, which are close relatives of Cronobacter. Duplex and multiplex PCR methods were established based on these newly identified marker genes. The reliability of duplex and multiplex PCR methods was validated with 74 Cronobacter and 90 non-Cronobacter strains. Strains of C. sakazakii, C. malonaticus, and C. turicensis could be detected accurately at both the genus and species level. Moreover, the newly developed methods enable us to detect 2.5 × 103 CFU/ml in pure culture. These data indicate that the accurate and sensitive established methods for Cronobacter can serve as valuable tools for the identification of these strains recovered from food, environmental, and clinical samples.

Since birth, the human microbiome plays a pivotal role in health. It is intriguing to understand the establishing roles of intestinal microbiota in infants. This study aimed to investigate the dynamic changes in maternal and infant gut microbiota, the interaction between intestinal microbiota, and the function of intestinal microbiota. This study recruited one pregnant woman >35 weeks gestational age. Faeces of the mother–infant dyad were regularly collected until the infant was six months old for metagenomic analysis. The results showed that the infant’s gut microbiota was significantly different from the mother’s, encompassing Bacteroides fragilis, Ruminococcus gnavus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Klebsiella michiganensis. Infant- or mother-specific differential metabolic pathways were found between the mother and infant’s gut microbiome, implicating differences in the intestinal metagenomic potential/function. In conclusion, the gut microbes and functions were gradually established as the infant grew.
