Gokare Aswathanarayana Ravishankar obtained his B.Sc. from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1972; his M.Sc. in 1975; and his Ph.D. in 1981. He was an INSA Research Associate in the Regional Research Laboratory, Jammu Tawi, 1981–1984; he was the director-grade Chief Scientist during 2005–2012 at CFTRI; he was a Professor of Biotechnology at Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, in 2013–2016; he was a Visiting Scientist to Korea Ginseng and Tobacco Research Institute, South Korea, in 1984, a Visiting Scientist at the University of Alabama, Tuskegee, USA, in 2000, a Visiting Scientist at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, in 2006–2015 and a Visiting Professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Ishikawa, in 2004, Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan, in 2012, and Ural Federal University, Ekaterinburg, Russia, in 2013–2016. Here are the Awards/Honours he has obtained: Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) Hiralal Chakravarthy Award, 1992; AFST(I) Laljee Godhoo Smarak Nidhi Award, 1994; DBT National Technology Day Award, 2003; AFST(I) Prof. V.Subrahmanyan Industrial Achievement Award, 2003; Prof. Vyas Memorial Award of Association of Microbiologists of India, 2006. He is the Former President of the Association of Microbiologists of India, Bangalore chapter, Former President of Society of Biological Chemists, Bangalore chapter. Former Vice President (HQ) of Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India, Mysore.
